The TS200 Interior Wall System is custom fabricated in our shop according to your design requirements. To insure compatibility with other building components, Thin Stone Systems, Inc. will prepare and submit complete shop drawings for approval prior to fabrication. The TS Wall Systems comprise a variety of special extruded aluminum frames and shapes which must be precisely fabricated and attached to the facing panels to achieve desired results. Fabricated panels and/or pre-assembled panels are delivered to the jobsite ready to be installed on the building substrate. All necessary loose clips, angles, and runners are included as part of the system.
The basic components of the interior system are the facing panel of Thin Reinforced Stone, 3/8" thick and the specially designed extruded aluminum framing which is shop applied to the back of the fascia panels. Mating and interlocking clips, angles, and runners provide the means to pre-assemble and/or anchor the panels or assemblies to the substrate walls. The frames and shapes of the interior system are different from those of the exterior system because the requirements are different.
Thin Reinforced Stone is natural stone - marble, granite, or limestone - which has been sliced extremely thin and reinforced with high-strength glass fiber nettings bonded to the stone with epoxy in a vacuum induced impregnation process. This process transforms the brittle ultra thin stone slabs into strong, lightweight, non-brittle (ductile), and impermeable panels. The sheets of Thin Reinforced Stone are produced in sizes of 4 to 5 ft. wide and 8 to 10 ft. long and only 5/16" and 3/8" thick. They are calibrated to constant thickness and this makes them ideal for use as full-height interior wall panels in a manner similar to architectural veneered plywood wall panels. The method of installation is even similar and the skills required are common to the carpentry trade.
New technologies in the stone industry bring new design possibilities. The development of the ultra thin reinforced stone and its availability in such large dimensions offers designers the possibility of using full height wall panels of natural stone to achieve dramatic effects heretofore not possible or practical or economically feasible with traditional stone. These very thin sheets of stone, in such large dimensions in their unsupported state, are fragile and very delicate to handle in the traditional installation techniques. The large limber panels must be structurally supported in order to be usable in this manner. The large panels must also be strong enough to survive transportation from shop to the jobsite, sometimes great distances. The TS200 Interior Wall System provides the necessary strength and stiffness along with the means of installing these large but lightweight panels. The ease and simplicity of attachment makes the installation of the panels a quick and economical process. While the basic framing system is designed for a dry, mechanical method of installation, the perimeter frames is also designed to develop a locking bond with spots of adhesive such as silicone or latex and epoxy mortars.
ADVANTAGES OF THE TS200 INTERIOR WALL SYSTEM
- Dramatically reduced weight of the large size panels - only 6 lbs. per sq.ft. as opposed to 27 lbs. for traditional 2" stone - means less costly transportation, handling equipment, and labor of installation. A 4' x 9' TS Panel weighs about 192 lbs. versus 864 lbs. for a traditional 2" slab of marble or granite.
- The light weight of the panels and the simple, dry, all-mechanical attachment system allows speedy installation using techniques common to carpentry industry.
- The interlocking frames and clips of the TS Wall Systems make the wall panels automatically self-aligning and self-leveling at joints and corners thus contributing to the speed of installation.
- The simple elegance of full height wall panels is just not available in traditional stone without dramatically high costs as well as costly structural ramifications. The thickness requirements of a 4' x 9' slab of traditional stone and its required method of installation make the cost prohibitive.
- The Thin Stone technology gives designers many new options. Many natural stones - marbles, granites, and limestones - are available in the Reinforced Stone format. The reinforcing process makes available some classic and very decorative marbles and granites which, until now, could not be considered usable in large dimensions because they are so fragile in their natural state.
- The TS Wall Systems include methods to create panel edge returns of various dimensions with a virtually invisible miter joint which will simulate a much thicker slab of stone. This can be seen in the DETAILS section. The edge returns give a designer more choices in working with stone.
- TS Wall Panels can be easily dismounted and relocated in the event of plan or layout changes.
